When you look in the mirror you see what you want,
human perfection in which no one taunts.
you left your friends cuz you think you're the shit,
thinking you live the high life with the lights lit.
but look again on a red moon night,
and the shattering reflection sparks a fright.
your face isn't the same as you've known,
it's a face of perfection completely sewn.
vanity and Solitude pay you a visit,
and a fear freezes over you to the point where you can't face it.
Tear away at your face if you must,
at the reflection that you can't trust.
and as you rip the flesh off your diamond face,
vanity claims it with her ropes and lace.

The Story

A woman scorned is a woman to beware, but a woman whos scorned and arrogant. . . thats when people run in fear.

Regina Li was once a woman well known in her societical class in her town. People whom would sterotypically light there cigars with a handful of one hundred dollar bills and prance around town with designer diamond everything. Regina herself was admired by all men and women for her voice and beauty, but at the same time envyd by other woman of her class. She always was the talk of the town, and attended every special event that occured. Walking on stages, giving speechs, and making men bow down to her beauty and siren-like voice became an everyday thing. Countless men she would date and dump only knowing that she could always get anyone she wanted. She began to ponder the idea of moving onto bigger things, perhaps maybe a life in the city. Her ideas spun webs as she began to plan her entire rise into the city world. She knew that there would a larger crowd of people, but even through that she saw it as a challenge. A month went by and her beauty won all the money she needed to leave the town life and begin a new in the city.

There she moved in with a room-mate around her same age. The Room-mate didn't talk much and Regina had noticed that she hardly went out either. It was quite odd how her room mate seemed so distant and away from the world. Regina didn't let that bother her though, she just minded her own bussiness and made her self comfortable in the apartment. A week later into the whole move, Regina began scouting around for a job. She searched around places where she knew her beauty would come in handy, and that it was a job where she could be exposed for everyone to see. She tried a few modeling agencies here and there, plus a few bars where they needed a hostess to entertain. Looking at all these application she had filled she began thinking to her self "what am i doing? these places are so utterly low class, i must find where my people go to be seen." She went home that night with the idea to go to the opera house the following morning in search for a job. She search around her apartment in hopes to find her room mate and ask her where the opera house was located, but the room mate was no where to be found.

The next morning she walked into the opera house only to find a long line of middle aged women auditioning for the part of "Eve" for the show called "The Unforgiven". Regina took an application and begun filling it out, already thinking that she would win the role. She went through the whole process which extended into an excruciating 5 hours. At the end, out of the 150 women that were there, 10 were chosen based on facial features, height, weight, hair color and body proportions. Regina was one of those ten. Elated she went home to tell her room mate the wonderful news. When she got back to the apartment she still didn't see any trace of her, Regina walked around her room mates room only to find everything in the same place it was a few days before. "She probably met a man" Regina thought. Regina giggled to herself and suddenly picked up a strange odor floating around the room. immediatly Regina walked out of the room and closed the door behind her. She walked over to the window to vent out the smell only to find that the window had already been opened.

the following day Regina had the sudden nervous chill run down her back. One of the judge got up and stated that the next audition was to see whos voice was more fit for the part of "Eve". Regina began to tremble at the thought that maybe her voice wasn't good enough as the other girls. After the first 5 girls went on stage to test there voices the judges decided to take a lunch. Regina snuck over to the table where the judges were sitting at and looked to see that she was supposed to go next. Upon this she also saw that only 1 girl will be chosen after this stage, and out of the first five women none were chosen. She could not lose this chance, but yet she was so unprepared for anyone to sample her voice. She suddenly sparked an old light and she went in search of one of the judges. Withen the hour and a half lunch break they got, Regina spotted one of the judges at a Motel Dining Inn Lodge right by the Opera house. She calmly walked over to him and whispered sexual temptations into his ears in exchange for winning the second round. From across the street though, spied one of the other competitors from the audition and she watched as the two got up, left the Diner, got a room at the Inn, and walked into there room. The woman followed up to the floor they were on and peeked through the window to see Regina riding on the judge like a wild amazon on a horse. The Woman left and immediatly went to tell the other women what she had saw.

the auditions continued on after the lunch hour, and without a doubt, Regina won the judges decision. The woman that had spying on Regina and one of the Judge lept up from her chair and began screaming out what she had saw. The other judges question the man judge and he simply denied it. As everyone began to leave the room, Regina walked passed the "snitch" and whispered "sorry hun, if you don't got a face like mines, you shouldn't even bother with trying, it's pointless." and with that Regina walked away chuckling.

Regina went back to her apartment and left a note on her room mates door telling her that she was going back to her town to tell everyone the great news and study her script there.

A month went by and she returned to her apartment just in time to prepare for her big opening night. When she opened the door all the lights were off and it seemed as if nothing had moved. She left the door opened and walked in towards her room mates room only to find the note she left on the door undisturbed. She then turned the door nob of the room the stench had streamed out of her room and flooded the apartment. Regina walked in and suddenly notice a small portion of the wood work by the closet had began to mold. She covered her nose and slowly walked over to the closet. She then grabbed the closet handle and slowly pulled it up and out of the darkness her room mates head came tumbling out and what was left of the body toppled to the floor. Regina let out a pierceing scream and ran back out to living room to call the police. She picked up the phone and began to dial 9-1-1. Paniced at the sight that she had just seen Regina didn't take time to notice that there was no dial tone. Suddenly she heard the phone pick up as if someone were in her room. Then a gentle whispering voice echoe through the line "You should really learn to close and lock your doors when you get home, you never know who could walk in." With that, Regina spun around only to see 6 of the other women who auditioned for the part standing behind her. The women lept at Regina and tied her down to a chair with a bunch of ropes and laces they found. Regina sat there in fear not knowing what would become of her. Suddenly out of the corner of the room stood the "snitch", holding a kitchen knife to her sides. Regina then looked at the other women as they all stepped back. The "snitch" sat down on Regina's knees and said "You know, small town girls like you never know when to keep your mouth shut. espcially around City folks like us." with this, the "snitch" swung the knife across Regina's face, right from her cheek across her nose and eyes. The "snitch" didn't stop though, she kept slashing away at Regina's face, even the pale white bone of her skull began to peer through the cuts. With the final cut, the "snitch" sent the knife right into Regina's throat and left her there to die slowly without having a voice.

Regina died several hours later, and no one was to know about the two bodies in the apartment until another week went by. After death Regina was given the name of "Vanity" for it was beauty and vain that got her into the mess. Vanity floats around Opera houses in search for a new face to take. Her Ropes of Envy slither around her like snakes. They whip and lash so hard that it tears through human flesh like a blade. It has still remained a mystery what had happened to Vanity's room mate. If you remember correctly, the strange odor was still floating around in the air during Vanity's 1st Audition. Also why was the window opened when Regina came home that night? Another mystery is that people claim they've seem Vanity, but she's always accompanied by circular round things floating by her side. . . . .
