underground parties are a blast,
espcially raves that have a huge mass.
but with all the noise and flashing lights,
how can you keep anything in sight?
the drugs creep into you slowly and surely,
and keeping your balance isn't anything sturdy.
from far in the crowds huddles a crying girl,
for some reason her face shines like a pearl.
you approach her to comfort her pain,
because it seemed as if she'd crying like the rain.
but when you look up to see her face,
it felt as if, you're heart had been embraced.
with every tear and scream from your mouth,
Travesty tears you apart inside out.

The Story

Clubs, bars, house parties, Raves, Mass, parties, the ultimate sense of social life. Usually a world revolving around drugs, sex, music, and dance. Enjoyment is one thing, but when do you know enough is enough? have you ever thought that maybe some of these places aren't what they're all cracked out to be?

Karen Pham wasn't like any other girl at her school. In her infant years she was abandoned by her father and mother, in front of a bar. The barkeeper took her in and raised Karen on her own. Tina then went onto kindegarten, then into grade school. She was a smart young girl, but she always seemed distracted with the thought of where she came from. in her 2nd year of elementary school, the child services had gone to the barkeepers home and took custody of young Karen and sent her to an orphanage. The barkeeper was arrested for a double homicide that she commited several years ago. Karen's life was always on the move, transfering from house to house. Stability did not exsist in her life. Into her 5th year in elementary school, Karen was finally adopted by a Chinese man and woman. They owned a small store in the area and had always wanted a child to call their own. Karen finally laid down her roots and made a connection with the family. They watched her grow and prosper through her Middle school years noticing that she never got close with anyone at school. The mom and dad sat down one night and asked her why that was, and she simply replied that it seemed as if everyone she got close to would dissappear in her life. The mom and dad explained to her that it was all by conicidence, and never to worry about it again. This brought hope to little Karen as she grew older. Karen Made it to high school and she was happy that her parents didn't "dissappear" on her.

One day while at school, she was running to class and accidently ran into a guy. The two of them fell on top of one another in the hallway spilling there books and papers. Karen immediatly apologized and looked up to meet the guys eyes. He looked right back into hers and had a very "stuck" look hanging by his mouth. He finally got himself up and picked up Tina's books for her and introduced himself as Cody. The two became immediate friends and hung out together everywhere they went. Cody and Karen became inseperatable and they introduced each other to there own friends which then opened into a circle of friends. They'd go watch movies, study together, eat out, bonfire at the beach, etc. Karen's family kept a watchful eye on her friends and were happy they were a very responsible and happy bunch.

Karen and Cody grew up with one another into through their High school life. In Karen's junior year she began noticing how close her and Cody were and how she didn't want anything to break that bond. She then started realizing that she was developing an emotion towards Cody that felt simliar to the one she has for her family. . . only difference was that it was much more deeper. Karen was in love with Cody, and she didn't know how to explain it to him. She kept the little secret to herself and continued hanging out with Cody and her friends. Slowly and slowly the secret ate away at her, and she began feeling more pain then happiness. She didn't understand what she had to do; should she tell him or should she keep it to herself. Karen didn't want to ruin what she already had with Cody, rather she wanted to perfect it.

Into her senior year in High school things had evolved around her. Guys and girls seemed to be going through puberty and switching over into their rebelious stages. Karen on the other hand didn't. She stayed as sweet and sincere as she always was. Cody on the other hand began getting curious about the female body and begun dating countless girls. There was not much Karen could do except to be his support whenever he needed her. But even with that much Cody and karen's relation with one another grew thin and weak. This broke into Karen's heart and mind. She had kept the secret so well hidden in herself she forgot the very reason why she didn't tell him in the first place. Tina went home that day in heartache and she hoped to speak with her mother about it. When she got home she noticed the house was completely empty and she walked around only to find a note posted on the refridgerator. It read: "Your mother is in the hospital please come quick". Karen dashed to the hospital and found her father there weeping away. He looked up at Karen with a tears running down his face. Karen was puzzled and she walked to her fathers side. He got up and hugged her tight. "Your . . . . your mother. . . . .she was at the restruant. . . .she . . it. . ." Karen's father couldn't say anything without him catching his tears. Suddenly, the hospital door flew open and a bunch of nurses and firemen wheeled in a patient whom laid burnt on the gurnee. "we've got another one" and this sparked a fear into Karen's mind. She then looked at her father and then the room closest to him. She walked slowly in that direction and as she got closer to the door way she saw the name of her mother posted on the slip in the holder. Karen paced her way into the room and then saw her mother lyeing on the bed. Karen's mother had been brutally burned and her life hung by a thread. Karen dropped herself onto her mothers bed and began crying away. Karen's mother then woke up and put her hand on her daughters head. Karen looked up at her mother and asked if she was going to be alright. She replied in a haggard voice. "We've raised you to this point and i want you ta carry on your life with happiness." Karen's mom then said that she held onto the last bits of her life to have one more chance to see karen's smile. With that, she passed away.

Karen slipped into a depressive state of mind as well as her father did too. He became a drunk and sat at home alot not caring what would happen to Karen. Karen on the other hand turned to Cody for help. Cody tried his hardest to comfort her and then invited her to come with him to a rave that he had been invited to by one of the alumni's from school. The Alumni was a girl who's name was Cindy she and her twin sister always knew the hottest spots for partys. Karen didn't have anything else to lose, and she felt as if she couldn't let down Cody and she decided to go with him.

That night was the begining of karen's new life. It was a world of happiness and music was all Karen thought. She decided to take the "enchancers" which were the little pills of extascy. Her skin tingled with every touch, her ears took in the music as if it was food, colors and light became mind pleasing, and it seemed as if all of Karen's problems lifted away. She danced the night away. All the people around her asked to keep in touch , and she went home that night with a pocket full of phone numbers.

The next day she called Cody and thanked him repeatly for the experience and hoped to have more fun the following weekend with him. Weekends to Karen became the days of release when she could drop her troubles, drug herself up and leave the world. It became routine to her, until one night she got home a little too late, and her father was standing in the living room in wait. He interrogated her wondering where she had been and what she was doing. He then looked at her eyes, only to see that they were dialated as hell and he took a swing at her face. Karen's father slapped her upside the head and screamed at her. "what have you done to yourself? Do you think you're mother would've liked to see you this way?" He began to place pressure upon guilt on Karen. Karen then got the urge and spoke back to him sayin that he should've been there with her mother to protect her. The two exchanged words and suddenly Karen's father raised his hand again. Thats not where it stopped though, after the first hit, he began to hit her harder with his fist. Repeatly he hit her body and her face knocking her to the floor. There he began kicking her and finally decided to leave her there. Karen's night had been blown away by her father and she decided to leave home. She ran away to Cody's house in hopes of some support. When she got there she saw a car parked in his driveway and she ran closely along the side of it only to discover that it was the Cindy's car. She looked up by the window and saw Cody, Cindy, and Mindy all caught up with one another in his bed. Tina couldn't take the hurt anymore and ran off into the night.

She was never again seen at home or at school, instead she was seen at all the parties that were thrown around the city.

A month went by and on a saturday night there was an underground rave happening under a freeway by a river delta. Tina attended as usual and propped herself up with 6 pills of E, and a few capsules of G. She danced into her high and was completely carefree. As she spun around on the dance floor she suddenly saw Cody approaching her in the crowds. He stepped up to her and grabbed her arm and questioned where'd she been. Since she was too high and the music was too loud she didn't understand a word that came out his mouth and smiled. Cody was trying to explain to Karen that her father was there and he was as high, drunk and mad as ever. She then saw Cindy and Mindy peek over from the sides of Cody, and she flung her hand at Cody's face. She got up and ran off into the crowds then out through one of the hidden side entrances.. Her drugs then started peaking and she began to lose all sense of what was happening around her. she couldn't make out where she was walking to and she reached around gripping and holding onto anything that was around her. She began to stumble around and then she fell to the floor. She reached up and grabbed onto a thin metalic line and felt a strange sensation string through her palm. She clasped her hands together only to find that it wuz sticky and wet. It took her about 5 mins to adjust her eyes and she got closer and closer to the line. She then saw that it was a barb wire fence that had been set up around the exit of the river delta and blocked anyone to get to close to the large pillars holding up the freeway. As she kept leaning closer to the barb wire a sudden flicker up pain targetted her stomach and she accidently threw her head forward. One of her eye lids then got caught on one of the barbs and she pulled herself back ripping out the flesh underneath her eyes. She couldn't control herself and started patting the floor madly looking for something to cover the rip. As she searched the ground she kept hitting her hand onto the barbs, letting the little pieces of metal hook onto her skin and tearing it off. She began screaming and tried to throw herself, but the drugs that were in her system weighed her down and she fell backwards against the fence. She began to struggle and kick in pain tryin to release herself from the sneering trap of the barb wire, and as she did this, more and more little tears and rips came about her body. Finally she used all her might and threw herself up , and then she dropped back to the floor bleeding all over. She needed help, but she wasn't exactly sure how and where to look for it. So Karen began crawling back the direction she came and ended up staggering back on her feet. Slowly and slowly she made her way back to the rave area losing countless ammounts of blood. She entered through the hidden side entrance and immediatly was caught up in the surrounding darkness. The lights flickered and the people were as high as ever. The sound tore through the dance floor as if everyone had put on the same head phones and were playing the same music. Karen walked around grabbing onto people asking them for help and they simply just pushed her back and smiled. They all thought it was a joke and gave her a hug. Karen shook her head and began hallucinating all sorts of things flying around her head. She plopped herself into a corner and tried to make the illusions go away and began gasping for air. She then felt a strange person step up in front of her and she slowly looked up. It was Cody . . or was it? Karen's high completely clouded her judgement and she couldn't make out who it was. Going off on the thought that it was Cody she got up and put her arms around him. Then she held his face and adjusted her eyesonly to watch as Cody's face becamse her fathers. Her eyes widened with terror and she pushed herself back away from him. Her fathers hand flew forward and coincidently one of his fingers reached into one of her wounds from the barb wire. She began screaming, and he dug his fingers deeper into the wound trying to pull her back towards him. Karen reached forward to grab onto anything and suddenly felt the flesh from that wound rip. She fell on the floor into her own puddle of blood kicking around hoping that it would ward off her father but it didn't. He jumped on top of her and began punching her in the face sending out more blood from her ripped eye lid. The people around her dispursed a little and continued dancing away. There highs kept there minds off centered, the loud music muffled away Karen's screams and the darkness blinded everyone to see what was happening. Karen couldn't pick herself up off the floor because it was too slippery with her blood so she laid there, giving up on her exsistance. After the father saw that she wasn't moving he got off of her and made his way through the crowds. Karen's body laid there without motion, and people would accidently step on her arms but only to think that she was just resting. One guy got so much as to pick her up and sat her body against the walls.

It wasn't until the sun began to come up did a girl started becoming sober, sat down next to Karen's dead body and realized that all this time, the poor lonely looking girl in the corner was not tired, that she was dead.

Karen came back to this world as Travesty, the lonely Child of the night. She still hangs out at raves and parties enjoying what was cheated from her, her life. She carried with her the "Spear of Euphoria" going around to parties hoping to recover all the lost pieces of what had been taken away from her body. Since at the time of her death she was missing an eye she wasn't too sure what was lost, so she goes around tearing peoples bodies apart and searches like a mad woman. She will always love the rave scenes the most, because there. . .no one can here you scream and fear is non-exsistent in a persons mind when they're "enjoying the dance"
